Campo S. Maria Nova where we sat for coffee and coke.
John reading.
Gondolas parked in a narrow canal alongside the campo.
Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, built in the 1400's for one painting that was believed to have the power of miracles. This church is small, wedged in between canals and residential buildings, with huge marble panels on the outside that mirror the interior. The ceiling was entirely made of portraits of various saints laid out in a pattern of squares.
John was in Venice with me for a couple days, mostly spent wandering around and taking in the sites. It was so nice to have him here, and to feel the ease of slipping back into each others' lives. We spent a chunk of one day visiting this church and sitting in the campo across from the canal; it was a sweet spot, with a flowering tree and people out enjoying the sunshine. I felt so lucky to be able to share this amazing place with him, and live our lives together totally removed from our normal habitat.
