Islands

Peter, Tami, Jamuna and Tim on the boat, island hopping.

Looking out from the hostel porch toward the orchard and restaurant of this agro-tourism site on the island of Mazzorbo.

Burano, looking out towards the lagoon after a passing thunderstorm.

The colorful houses of Burano, the lace-making island.

Part of the park-in-progress on Certosa, an island that is home to a small hotel and boat building school in addition to this new park.

Goats on Certosa.

Island of San Lazaretto Nuovo, once a site for quaranteening merchandise and people on their way into the lagoon. Rich with history, it is now a site for archeological digs and other educational activties.

Looking over the wall that surrounds San Lazaretto to the salt marshes.

It has been some time since I've written, so this post is a collage from a couple weeks ago of our visits to the various islands in the lagoon. Many of these images are not necessarily what you would think of when you imagine Venice, or at least not what I had thought was here. They give more of a complete picture as to the landscape, though much of this not what the typical tourist sees on their typical three day trip.
